HORNBEAM – Carpinus betulus

The hornbeam is a deciduous tree with an irregularly rounded shape. Its leaves are ovate, serrated and 7-12 cm long. They are green and turn orange-yellow in autumn. It is very resistant to wind and moisture. It is hardy, tolerates subalpine climates well and is smog resistant. It thrives in both sunny and shady locations and is not a demanding soil plant that grows in moist, dry to very dry soil. It can be pruned into any shape and the height of the hedge can be varied. Hornbeam goes well with a rustic look in the surroundings or in the garden. It is a medium-fast-growing plant and reaches a height of 15 to 20 meters when fully grown.
